Wheeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My editor called today to let me know that Faeries of Dreamdark: Blackbringer has been nominated as an ALA Best Book For Young Adults!!!!!!!

Holy Cow!! I really can't even convey my excitement. You can see the list of nominees (so far) and the previous years' winners here. I think the way it works is that librarians continue to nominate books throughout the year and then a committee narrows the list down to a final 80 or 90ish titles next January at ALA Midwinter, and also creates a top 10 list of titles. To the lovely, marvelous librarian(s) who nominated me: thank you, thank you, wherever you are. You have made my heart happy. And my brain too.

Thank you!

Hey! I'm following my brother's comment! Laini, this of course is absolutely no surprise at all. Blackbringer IS a total juicy masterpiece from start to finish and this is sure to be only the first of many, many more nominations and awards. YOu're going to get so tired of it eventually that you'll be like, "oh god! Not anotherone? ugh!"

There's a line in the new Modest Mouse album in the song "Fire it Up" that goes "...grabbed a book and read the cover. It honestly was beautifully done." See? Even Modest Mouse knows you're going to get that ALA award! Not only is the inside awesome, but so is the cover - and that's what'll get the kids and ahem, older folk like me, to pick it up off the shelf.

Congrats!

Congratulations, Laini - and Hooray for librarians with good taste!

As for your secret identity, the knife between your teeth sounds like just the right touch - though I think a cape and mask (maybe something feathered?) is definitely called for in the wardrobe department. Kids are so funny - what a great answer she had for you.
Don't be afraid - if your writing here is any indication of your speaking abilities, I'm sure you'll do great!

There's a happy heart here on Cape Cod, too! You are on your WAY, and I'm going to be saying I sat in your kitchen!!! (For some reason, blogger won't let me access your blog from my computer so I have to come here via Ted's computer.
Blogger is being very sneaky and persnickety these days.)
