March mini-NaNo, the conclusion!

Youch, Wednesday again! I'll tell you right now: if you finished your zero draft, you can have my cupcake, because I did not! Arg! So many things have come up in the past couple of weeks, the most recent of which is that Jim is sick (poor sweetie!) so I have Clementine right now instead of it being my work time, which means: quick blog post!

If you met your goal, HUGE CONGRATULATIONS!!!

I really really hope a fair number of you made great progress on your goals this month! I did so-so, but am REALLY READY to recommit and keep moving forward. However, I have to wait until mid-April to really get working again, because I have a number of other things to check off my list first, like finishing up workshop prep for the plotting workshop I'm giving at the SCBWI Western Washington conference (are you coming? You should come!) the weekend after this, not to mention the keynote I will also be delivering (my first keynote!). Sooooooo, without further ado, here's Mr. Linky. Sign in and give a quick status report. In comments, please share your ongoing plans. I loved seeing your progress this month!

Now, for inspiration, HERE is a video that Stephanie mentioned in comments last week (for some reason I couldn't find an embed code). It's great. I want to have that attitude about writing -- wouldn't it be marvelous?

Also, randomly, I came across these ingenious ways of solving one of the world's enduring dilemmas. I'm sure you've faced it, maybe you cope with it every day. ha ha. It is: how to carry your cookies and coffee at the same time??? Never fear. Ingenious minds are on the job! The solution might be the mug (cookie slot included), or it might be cookie cutters!

Enjoy!

Oh that mug and the cookie cutters are so clever!!!! BUT--you would not be able to have cookies with chocolate on them in the little slot would melt the chocolate and it would get messy....so not quite perfection, unless perhaps they insulated the cookie empouchment.

I'm with you on not actually meeting my goal this week, or my overall goal. But I am recommitted to writing! hurrah!

I want both! The mug and the cool cookie shapes!!! SO COOL!

Oh, I wish I could attend that conference to hear you speak and take your plotting workshop, Laini. I haven't met my overall March goal, but I did make significant progress in the face of several distractions both appealing (vacation, houseguest) and not (sick sick sick--I hope Jim is feeling better soon!). So my goal of finishing my revisions is rolling over into April, but I'm feeling positive about it. I'm going to continue to carry the thought of all the others who have commented on their goal progress this month with me as I work. It's motivating to think of myself working in the company of others who are buckling down and working hard to achieve their goals.

I'm so excited because I'm going to the SCBWI conference--my first! I can't wait to attend your workshop and the keynote address, Laini. The March Mini NaNo did help me get back on track with my WIP, so I'm calling it a success even if technically I didn't earn a cupcake either. I feel good about having some momentum going. Jenn, I agree that it's motivating to work in the company of others--which is why I've decided to stop lurking and start posting!

Oh, no! No chocolate covered cookies. That wouldn't work at all!Unless you just ate them really fast so they weren't in the cookie slot long enough to melt! I didn't hit my goal either, but I agree, Elisabeth,I'm calling the March Mini Nano a success for me too. Have fun at the conference. Good luck with your keynote speech, Laini! (-:

I must confess: I MET MY GOAL! I managed to push other stuff out of the way and revised two scenes. Thank you, Laini, for the motivation this month; I doubt I would have managed any new words without your challenge and your encouragement.

Sadly, I did a woefully tiny amount of writing in March.

Thankfully, April is a new month, and beyond that, it marks the start of summer vacation for me, so my goal is to finish my first draft by the end of the month! I really think I can do it. I'm already about 13,000 words in, and I'm aiming for 60,000, plus lots of brainstorming, of course. I definitely need a lot more of that.

I suppose it's rather telling that I misread the title of this blog post as "March mini-NaNo, the CONCUSSION." Hahaha.

I hope everyone, regardless of whether or not they met their goals, manage to keep their momentum going into April and finally do reach their goals or meet new ones!

And thanks to Stephanie for the link to Ray Bradbury's video. What a beautiful sentiment. A democracy of readers, indeed!

I got so much done and I am VERY proud of myself! I consider it a success. I'm looking forward to finishing it in April. This has been so much fun, Laini! Thank you for doing this. It felt really good to be in a supportive group like this.

CONGRATULATIONS to everyone who met their goal! And here is to the April writers!

Didn't meet the goal, yet. I ended up being sick and sleeping a lot because of it. Man, I want a cupcake!

I reached my goal of 50,000 words (actual word count as of yesterday morning was 56,203) with 1,667 done on a daily basis. Since I haven't finished the novel and I realise I haven't even reached the middle yet I don't feel like I'm done so it hasn't quite sunk in yet how much I have actually accomplished.

I'll be continuing into April along with others and I intend for this to be a lifelong habit: not necessarily the word count but the habit of sitting down with the intention to write daily.

Well done to everyone for taking part (whether or not you achieved your goal) and thank you to Laini for this opportunity to join a writing community :)

Your posts always make me happy, Laini! :)

I'm happy to head into April with you, working on this zero draft. My goal for March was to write 35,000 words; I wrote 14,000. I feel like a rock star, though, because, honestly, that's four times what I had written in the previous four months.

Bravo to Mary Alexandra and Sophia for meeting their goals! I'm totally jealous of Faith who is finished and who gets to do the research. Does that mean you are researching the bits and pieces that your characters know all about and you don't? I love that part of writing--it actually ties me up when I guess I should be slapping down the story.

Hurray for a new month--good luck, everyone. :)

Thanks for all the writing support & community in March, Laini! It was fabulous even though I did not meet all my goals. I just told my husband I need 80 hours in April, so... I'm on my way!

I will see you at the conference! I'm so excited!

Okay, so I didn't meet my goal, but I am feeling very re-inspired, and the creativity and ideas are flowing, which they definitely weren't before I signed up for this March mini. So thank you very much!

Well done everyone and thanks to Laini for setting this up... I didn't quite meet my word count goals, but I refocused on writing and am feeling more upbeat and creative than I have for about a year.

This is going to be a great conference, and I get to write the summary of Laini's keynote! So I will be paying CLOSE ATTENTION.

I wrote 27,000 words in March, so I took my goal, held it over my knees, and broke it like kindling. It really helped to have these weekly check-ins. Thanks for the motivation!

Now if they had an Eiffel Tower cookie cutter, I'd be all over that! Wish I could come to your workshop. One day down the road I suspect! Hope Jim feels better soon!

I like those cookie-cup solutions (though I could see me still managing to soak my cookies hanging on the side - or tipping the cup the wrong way and they all fall into my lap. I need a cookie klutz solution...:).
Hope Jim feels better soon. Wishing you all a happy Easter weekend!

Thanks, Laini! I got more done in March than I did in January and February combined. I'm almost finished.

The cup for stashing and the cookie cutters made me smile.

Good luck with your workshop and Happy Easter!

An impressive share, I just given this onto a colleague who was doing a little analysis on this. And he in fact bought me breakfast because I found it for him.. smile. So let me reword that: Thnx for the treat! But yeah Thnkx for spending the time to discuss this, I feel strongly about it and love reading more on this topic. If possible, as you become expertise, would you mind updating your blog with more details? It is highly helpful for me. Big thumb up for this blog post! Fashion
