Am I a dancing princess?

I woke up this morning with stiff, aching muscles in my calves, and I immediately, thought -- of course -- that I must have been whisked away in the middle of the night in a fairy boat, led down tunnels filled with silver and gold trees, to dance my slippers to tatters in a magical ballroom, before being returned to my bed with no memory of any of it. Just aching calves. Or, maybe it's just from running on the treadmill late last night. . . less interesting, more likely. Ehh, I'm sticking with the fairy tale. I am a dancing princess, and don't you forget it!

Thanks for all the votes on the Laini's Ladies book lovers quote. I loved both, but the Borges votes far outweighed the Mrs. Piggle-Wiggles. Here's the design (I'll may still redesign the text):
You can't really tell, but the books are: Grimm's Fairy Tales, Peter Pan, Alice in Wonderland, and Through the Looking Glass. Those two ladies above are still semi in-progress.

And check out these lovely old photos I found. Eleanor Roosevelt (standing) reading with her daughter and some other relations:
A woman entertaining her grandson at the train station:
Reading in the garden:
A WWI-era American family in their living room:
It's awfully dull being a prince (a young Prince Charles):
A lovely day boating:
HAVE A WONDERFUL DAY!

Love the new lady!

I also really like what I can see of the one on the left in the top picture. I like her feathery hat and her bright wings and dress! :)

Thanks for the pick-me-up today!

* *Yay Borges-Borges-All-The-Way! * *

can you tell that was my vote? :)

Have you see the book Women Who Read Are Dangerous by Stefan Bollmann and Karen Joy Fowler?

It's a book of paintings of women reading throught history. I was totally psyched by it. Well, I wanted a bit more diversity in the paintings but then I realized that that could point to an issue of women color historically not being seen reading. I mean, I can think of famous writers but I don't think anyone painted portraits of them reading...

Anyway, check it out. I thought it was just an interesting topic of a photo book.

Love the old photos! I just posted one of my big kid reading last night. I love to take pictures of the kids reading. I have some great ones from when they were little. I'll have scan and post some of those (just because!).

Beautiful pictures! And not a t.v. in sight. Imagine that?

Reading, hands on toys, boating, families all in one room. Sounds blissful to me.

It never ceases to amaze me how women back then had such perfect posture all the time.

Oh, definitely a fairy dancing princess. Absolutely. And if you get a crick in your neck, it's probably because of fairy tango.

I love the new ladies! I'm a library nerd of the unfaithful kind, I walk among the dusty rows of books and adore the hushed wisdom - and then I go home to read in my armchair.

Have a wonderful day, sweets!

Love the new Laidies, especially the library one! My little boy told me he wanted to live at the library when we were there a few months ago. I told him that I knew exactly how he felt!

I'm just glad to see the picture of the grandmother trying to keep her grandson occupied. Glad to know women have been handling "active" children for at least a century.

The sulky prince really cracked me up. And yes, those new Ladies are wonderful! I really wish you'd stop, though, because it's ALREADY tough for me to narrow the field for my favorites! :)

Oooh! I think Paradise is a library too. Or, at least God has really good pillows and eternity-high shelves...
