Book lovers, a question for you:

[But first, a random picture I came across while searching for Laini's Ladies images. What do you suppose is going on here? It's kind of like sitting on Santa's lap, but instead of Santa, it's the devil.]

Okay, question. Which of the following quotes do you like better, and which would you be more inclined to purchase as a Laini's Lady?

"There is nothing as cozy as a piece of candy and a book."
-- Betty MacDonald, Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle’s Magic

OR

"I have always imagined paradise will be a kind of library."
-- Jorge Luis Borges

Thanks!

Hi Laini!

I like the second one. :)

I agree! They're both fun, but the Borges quote is the best.

I'll have to agree with jennifer and r.j. anderson. The second one is great, and I almost completely agree with it! The thing is, I've always imagined the library as a haven rather then a paradise.

Hm. I love candy, but I like the second one better. Somehow, it felt sort of whimsical to me.

But I think they're both great!

I love them both, but the first is the one that I'd buy, because it made me feel happy just to read it. (It's that coziness factor! :) )

Borges, definitely.

I like them both, but I like the second one just a smidgen better. Are the Mrs. Piggle Wiggle books legally quotable for something like your Ladies?

First of all, that picture is VERY interesting. I must get an outfit (and mustache) like that for the corporate world.

Do we have to choose one quote? Borges gets my vote because I like libraries more than candy ... but maybe I'm not the target audience.

p.s. I love the "what in the world have stumbled into here; we MUST be allowed to leave forthwith" looks on the two children in front.

Second quote. Love it.

the 2nd one but the 1st is very, very true indeed! Btw, marilyn's great aunt wrote the piggle wiggle books!

Second one just sounds smoother. Although since it's what I hope to be true, I could be biased. :)

Definitely the second one.

candy and a book all the way.

I would have to go with the 2nd one.

CANDY CANDY CANDY!!

That is a great picture! You are so clever.

My mom can't say "Satan" without it sounding a little like "Santa" -- she inserts an extra 'n'-- "Santan". Maybe she is one of the toddlers in the picture?

For me it's the second too.

I'm so glad you posted that pic b/c I needed a good laugh. Wow. It's the best story prompt photo I've ever seen. Should we do a Sunday Scribblings on it?

As for the quote, I think I like the library one, but the other one seems more suited for a faerie. Hm...let me ask the one hanging from my lamp. Yes, she says "candy and just one book at a time is more fun for the majority of people out there."

Ahem, her grammar is a little off, just so you know.

#2. Borges is just the best with his love of libraries as extensions of the universe. I agree with the first but the second reminds me that we travel in our heads and are wholely somewhere else, sort of like the powers a fairy could make of our lives too.

I can't choose! I read all four of the Mrs Piggle Wiggle books over and over when I was littler. I ordered them from those school catalogues, where you give the teacher your money and they give you a stack of books. Happiest moments of my life, truly!
BUt if I didn't know who Mrs Piggle Wiggle was, I would choose #2

I like them both...but definitely the second one.

Hey, Laini! I love that Borges quote. :)

Oooh, tough call! I would buy both because I love both authors. But then, if I wasn't familiar with the authors...eek. Still a tough call. I think personally, Borges would have a slight edge (because one of my favorite stories is The Library of Babel).

Here´s one of my own quotes, which I would love to connect to a lady of yours...

"the pleaure IS ALL MINE"

egoistic - I know - but when you´re a mother of four, you need to carve out some pleasure time for yourself!
- Charlotte Netz

I think that the second quote is perfect!

I vote for the second. Of course, I am partial to libraries.

I loved Mrs Piggle Wiggle when I was a kid. The first saying is my fav ... other than candy with a book it would now be candy and my knitting, LOL while listening to an audio book.

Laini Taylor said...

Well, okay. It looks like Borges has it! I love the first one, too -- maybe I'll find some use for it in the future!

I know this is late to come in but- The library quote!!! Oh my gosh YES. :)

Definitely Mrs. Piggle Wiggle - that was one of my favourite books as a kid!

I like the Borges, but that's just because I'm a librarian. :-)
