Yo Gabba Gabba, etcetera

I swiped this photo right off of The Excitement Machine, a blog I came across on one of those aimless link-to-link wanderings that can turn up so much strangeness and wonder. What IS Yo Gabba Gabba? I'm not quite sure if it's real or a spoof, but it appears to be a children's program involving live toy monsters, and if you click here you can see the trailer.

Here's what else I discovered on that little "walk" through blogland:

- Anna Ventura's lovely paperdolls

- A class Anahata is teaching this fall on "funky wallpaper murals". Oooooh...

- This local artist's website & blog. I've never been to her shop but it's only a few miles from my house, so I'm going!

Every time I do that, meander the links, I get pretty overwhelmed by how large this world is, this blog-world, how we're "living" in a teeny tiny neighborhood of it and inside everyone's "house" so to speak, there are a hundred more doors, into new neighborhoods, new worlds. It makes my brain do strange little jumping jacks trying to picture all the dazzling lines of connection that run between all our computers. (Metaphorically, of course, but don't put it past me to imagine a string and paper cups connecting us all!)

Also, I have GREAT news. We found out yesterday that Jim gets to illustrate my book! He's been rallying for the assignment and has done a number of pieces for the editor and publisher and art department to look at, and though they let him know a few weeks ago that he was hired to do interior spot illustrations, he only got the news yesterday about the book jacket. I wish I could post the art that finally decided them, and which will in all likelihood be the cover to Blackbringer, but I think there are people who would frown if I did that. It's a secret... but I can't wait to show you. It's my favorite thing my talented husband has ever drawn! Cheers, all!

It's great that you get to work with your husband on your project! I was intrigued by your thoughts on the "string and paper cups" image linking this blog-world together. There are so many talented souls out there (and right here)...so glad I'm getting to follow along.

Congrats to Jim - how terrific that this project will be a true labour of love. I hadn't thought of the string and paper cups in years - thanks for the reminder, albeit in a totally different realm never imagined back then!

Oh, how fantastic is THAT! Go Jim! That will be soooo cool for your kids someday, to have a book that mom wrote, and dad did the art for. Neat!

I love finding new blogs like that. That is how I found you! But I find so many cool people, I would never have time for all of them.

:)

I could lose entire days following links ... I have to be so careful not to lose entire days to the wonder of meeting new people.

And I will wait for Blackbringer because I HAVE NO CHOICE ... but I really am so excited for both of you!

Congratulations - That is so cool! I can't wait to see your collaboration in print.
Previous to reading this, I envisioned this blog world to be like the doors in Monsters, Inc. - but I love your metaphorical string and paper cups so much, that I think I'll keep a dixie cup on top of the computer to remind me :)

Lol, that picture cracked me up the minute I saw it. I have kind of a thing for kid's programming. It cracks me up.

And that's awesome news about Jim and your book. Cheers to you both! I am really looking forward to the reveal!

Laini & Jim - Congrats on the great news! Can't wait to see the end result - I know it will be fantastic!

I was so excited yesterday while I was on my personal "retreat" day (actually, a last hurrah to do what I wanted to do for the day before the kids get out of school), I found a shop that sold Laini's Ladies! (Can't remember the name, it's on Hawthorne.) They were so beautiful and I loved looking at each one and thinking about how you created it. Now that I know where to find them, I'm looking forward to going back and getting some for gifts in the future.

This is going to be one masterful book! I'm so excited for both of you toads. ! Congratulations again..!..!..!
On a separate note, when I read this post title, I thought 'What can this possibly be about???' It is pretty insane how huge this whole blogworld really is. We all live inside just one grain of sand of it its so enormous. Just like after I had email and I couldn't remember life before email, now its becoming the same thing with blogging. It opened us all up to so many amazing people we'd never have met otherwise. yay all of us!

WAhhh verily verdant with envy.
