Sunday Scribblings #13 - Music

Oh dear, oh dear. This is my longest post. You don't have to read it. BUT if you're interested in fairy tale curses and India and opera and love, maybe you'll read it. I had so much fun writing last week's sexy fairy tale scribble I decided to keep on with it and write a fairy tale involving music, and a curse, and kissing. The kind of kissing where teeth clash and lives are ruined. Have you heard of that kind of kissing? I think I just made it up. Anyway, the story took off, and here it is, and I realize I am only sheepish about its length because I'm a shameless comment-hog and I'm afraid you won't read it. But I'm okay with that, because the main thing I wanted out of Sunday Scribblings was to get myself writing stories, and I AM. And I LOVE IT. Cheers. (More scribbles here.)

no! You can't leave us hanging there. You said this was your longest post but I was so mesmerized I didn't even notice. Beautiful and intriguing and magical- please put up the sequel very, very, VERY soon! ( I LOVED it!)

You capture the magic and wonder of it all. I love your imagination and your way with words. Please don't leave us hanging too long...

AaaaahhhhhH!!!
I'll be back for the rest of the story (I have a sneaking suspicion, that unlike me, when I ran out of steam last week & resorted to this tactic - YOU actually know where this is going, for you are the Grand Mistress of Storytelling!)

Laini, what a brilliant story, so wonderfully-written! You really have the English colonialists down pat, as well as their life in India - brilliant details and rich imagery. And great idea to leave the reader hanging at the end, wanting more - just as the would-be lover who spoiled it all with a clumsy kiss. Just fabulous! You have a real talent for story-telling.

Laini...I don't even know what to say. I'll sit at your feet until you teach me how to do this. You'll trip over me, but we'll get used to it.

You captured the heat and magic of India PERFECTLY (and I've been there, so I can say that with confidence!). Wow...you are simply amazing.

You are an EVIL word-tease, Laini!!! Gaaah!

Please tell me you're going to post the ending soon. I'm not sure how long I can stand hanging on this cliff!

Laini, I love the detail in your writing. All these little pieces, afterthoughts, almost, scattered about -- they are so, so evocative.

Well, girlie, I hope you're typing like crazy right now! You can't leave us just hanging like this. I've just realized that I was leaning into the screen, scooting closer to the edge of my chair, drawn completely into the story.

I love your imagination and word choice. A little monsoon. Your story is rich & the telling is so strong. I enjoy reading writers like you. You've probably heard of this writer, but if not, Aimee Bender comes to mind when I read this - mainly because she comes to modern day events with so much imagination. If you haven't read her you might want to check her out.

Amazing. Riveting. I could see/hear/smell/feel everything through the magic of your words. Wonderful story - please give us more! :)

PS - have you read "Wicked" yet? I loved that book and everytime I read one of your fantasy pieces I think of that book and think how you'd like it if you haven't read it yet.
