So wonderfully creative, Laini! What a great imagination you have. Love the whole mythology/historical/modern day imagery combined. As for the bats, I HATE bats-----one attacked me once late at night, working alone in a newspaper office.

amazing - your imagination and the words that come out of it - amazing. I was so sad for that bat!! I like them too - unsung heroes of the fruit salad!!

Wow! I'm glad that bunch of gods didn't come down to eat all the chocolate!

Very cool story. Where can I go to visit Sazaje's shrine?

Laini

I think I had that dream once... found some funny green leaves in my brownies...

No, really, the adventure of chocolate is a religious experience - a pilgrimage that I find myself all too frequently.

You have the most amazing imagination!

I have come and read this a few times. Your imagination is just really brilliant.

Every time I have read this, I have a thought that this is how it is. The "gods" do their business, and meanwhile us regular folks are living life, and creating beauty in our simple moments.

Lovely.

Thank you for your comments on my post. I just wanted to note that "close" to the Gardens is a very relative thing - I'm in Wilsonville, and work not far from the 217/I-5 juncture in the Tigard/Lake Oswego area. So it's still a goodly drive. But - close enough to go on a whim, still.

And the Imp's Ears page is here if you wanted to find it. Most of the rest of it is just browsing through the other pages, picking out scents you are interested in (and dodging the ones that you can't get IEs of, if you don't want to buy whole bottles without knowing what you're getting into, which I admit I don't want to do...).

Beyond amazing. In your telling, the characters and creatures and situations seem plausible and real. Magic. That's what I say: Magic!

A bat found his way into the house once, I held it while helping it out of the house. Holding the bat was an incredible experience.

Thanks for a glimpse into this magical world. I was so sad for the gods who were missing out on the magic because they wanted to "study" things instead of enjoying them. How often do we do that in our own lives? Guilty . . . but I hope this story will remind me to take time to . . . enjoy the bats!

Made me think of how much ego, the desire for power, traps us inside ourselves and separates us from the gentle beauty of life. How much more powerful the bat was than the Gods, because he knew his place in the web of the living.
As for chocolate, one of my very favorite things in Harry Potter world is that chocolate will drive away the coldness left by Dementors. Only a woman could have written that! What does it mean that it seems to be mostly women who are impassioned with chocolate?

oh!i Just realized I had never posted to your story because I had printed it out to read. Obviously, I loved it! Have i ever read something of yours that wasn't amazingly unique? I don't think so (except for your Anti-Alexandra Manifesto that you submitted to Congress in 1992). Other than that, you are one wonderful writer-love these fun short stories!

I know I am a day late with this, but I wanted to join your Sunday Scribble, if I could? I made a post for this today. Is that okay?

I actually gasped when the bat met his fate. This story hit me on so many levels ... amazing. I have to ask, how long does it take you to get this to a point where you are ready to share? In other words, what has your process been for the short stories you've posted for Scibbles?
