I have to say - you are crazy. You should be doing nothing but going for luxurious swims, massages and movies. But the nesting instinct is strong in this one methinks! I guess you might have the same energy I have that has seen me finish my novel 3 weeks ahead of deadline. But you should see the state of my house!
A bassinet near your bed; a tranquil place with a comfy chair for all those feedings; an area for all those nappy changes; and most importantly, a pair of non-stressed mom & pop. These are all you need for many moons, at first.
Laini - maybe you need to have a painting party! Make some of your fabulous fruit tarts and invite everyone over to paint. I'd come!! I'd even offer to come help this weekend except I'll be at ALA in Chicago. Maybe next weekend? :)
We just went through this ourselves, albeit minus a near-term pregnancy. I thought we could get the whole stairwell and living room prepped and repainted in one weekend. A larger delusion I have seldom had. Took five weekends. But yeah, it's the vision of what-will-be that pulls you through. Just be sure to take care of yourself. No stress...it's just paint.
I'm a writer & artist. I live in Portland, Oregon with my husband Jim (also an artist) and our small daughter, Clementine Pie. My novels are Dreamdark: Blackbringer, Dreamdark: Silksinger, and Lips Touch, which was a finalist for the 2009 National Book Award. My next novel, Daughter of Smoke and Bone (Little, Brown) will be out September 27, 2011. I believe our dreams are REAL THINGS, not wisps and air, and it is our job in this life to make them come true, because no one else will do it for us, and because this is our one and only "wild & precious life"!

I bet your nest will be lovely and all the feathering will feel worthwhile when you're snuggled in there with your little one!
Can't wait to see pictures! Hope you're getting some rest!
