The heat wave continues. 105? I heard possibly it hit 107? Whatever, it is horrible. Days in a row. It hasn't been cooling off at night, so the mornings aren't even reasonably pleasant. My poor feet look like inflated surgical gloves. Cooking is out of the question. Watermelon, popsicles, salads. I've pulled the new rocking chair in front of the air conditioner in the studio, and just sit there and read. Why not write, you wonder? Why indeed. It seems like a reasonable thing to do when trapped in the house. I did read some of my new manuscript yesterday, but did not add to it. I've written some thank you notes though, and my hands go numb with each one. Awesome.
The studio is now de-cluttered (yay!) and even the laundry room! I can actually walk into it and get what I need right off the shelf, instead of standing near the door and leaning precariously over piles of suitcases and winter bedding and dog beds and bags of sell-back books. Of course, those bags of books are now just sitting by the front door. I wish I could snap my fingers and vanish them away to a library in need.
Planning to make an ice cream cake today for my mom's birthday. Lemon and blueberry, maybe? I have a cool-cucumber foot treatment and pedicure scheduled tomorrow, as well as a full re-pinkening of my head. Oh, we finally went to see Half-Blood Prince, and I really liked it. It was beautifully filmed (same D.P. as Amelie and Across the Universe). My only beef was that the majorly big thing that happens at the end wasn't nearly as impactful as it ought to have been. I remember when I read it I was shocked and kind of devastated, but when it happened in the movie, it was almost throw-away, a fumble of one of the series' most poignant and painful scenes. Too bad. As for things left out of the movie, it's been too long since I read the book for me to remember the details. Though . . . maybe I'll reread it now. I finished a good historical mystery last night and need to start something. Perhaps one of the dozens of baby books instead? Nah, I'll let all that stuff come as a surprise :-)

Yes, yes, read in front of A/C. That is what you should do today. Feet up, ice cream at hand, Jim-kisses on top.
Thinking of you in this heat, Laini! I was pregnant with Natalie this time of year and it was a hot summer 15 years ago when she was born. Summer babies are wonderful though, they seem to avoid many of the colds and stuff that winter babies struggle with. Will be praying for you and Jim in the days ahead - you're going to be awesome parents! Just trust your gut. Blessings!

I'm thinking of you sweltering in the heat! Sending cool thoughts your way! Put those feet in a bucket of cold water for a spell!
I felt the same way about HBP. I loved it, of course, and I had just re-read it, so I felt good that all of the important stuff made it into the movie.....but I did not have that feeling of, "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" that I got when I read the book. Maybe because I already knew? I dunno. Several people I know who saw it but did not read the book liked it, but felt it was kind of a transitional piece, kind of like Empire Strikes Back.....the in-between-movie.
(I still loved it, have a bit of a crush on Ron, even though I've always been a Harry girl until now.)
Don't read the scary Baby Books yet! But you can read some picture books to Professor (but you'll have to describe the pictures since she really can't see them yet......)
Take care!

So sorry this heat wave has come along just now. Hope you have a really big stack of really good books to draw you away into other worlds until it passes. It will pass! The pesky swelling and numbness too.
I hope it stops soon! Well I remember the hot little bodies of my babies held tightly to me in the August heat...
The heat and humidity are absolutely KILLING me too! Popsicles sound absolutely perfect right now.
Oh yeah, and what was up with The Burrow burning down in HBP? I don't remember that happening in the book...
How horrible that there's a heat wave when you're THAT CLOSE to baby-time! We had one when I was due with Elizabeth, too, but it certainly wasn't in the 100s.
I feel your pain, though. Take a cool bath!
Ugh. I can't imagine being pregnant in that heat without AC. I'm so glad you got one installed. You're almost there!
And I felt the same way about the HP movie. They did a much better job of "killing" Gandalf in the Fellowship of the Ring. But I liked the movie.
I think I went through 6 watermelons the summer I had my daughter. It was the only thing I wanted in the heat. We're in Florida and it gets brutal. This will all seem like a faint imagining compared to what is coming. Or I should say who.
I hope you can stay cool! Last year when I was pregnant, the heat really got to me too (especially since I live in the Caribbean). I also got to not wanting to do anything but lay around, being cool. :D Someone recommended pineapple slices with some honey to help with both the overheating and the swelling. You might want to try it. :D
I hope the heat breaks for you soon, Laini! High heat like that is awful, but it's even worse when you're pregnant. Before I had a window unit for my apartment, those were the days I'd usually end up going to the movie theater or a bookstore after work so I could camp out in the A/C a little longer.
I can't believe this heat you're having?! It's like Mississippi! I think we traded. Ours is only in the low 90's or high 80's - BUT, we have humidity - which sux harder than the heat.
Can't wait for your little Bebe to arrive! (that was french for some reason :-)
you are so close - cant wait!
Cool article you got here. I'd like to read something more concerning this matter. Thanks for posting this information.
